Grace to You and Peace

"God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."(1 Cor 1:9)

The opening to Paul's letter to the Corinthians is no ordinary greeting.  It is a blessing from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  This will be the foundation of the relationship that Paul shares with the Corinthian congregation (and all other congregations that read this letter - including Elizabeth Presbyterian and beyond).  This shared grace and peace from God, is the reason that Paul has anything at all to say to them.  Everything that Paul says will flow from this foundation, which is built on God’s call to Paul, and God’s call to each of those who are listening.  As Byron Whitfield says it, “The initiative from start to finish [in Paul's letter and in their relationship] is an act of God’s grace.”

This week’s scripture passages include: Psalm 40:1-11, 1 Corinthians 1:1-9
