When Jesus is tempted in the wilderness, it is Jesus' identity as the Son of God that the devil wants. "Prove to me that you are 'the Son of God,' by doing what I command." But Jesus will have none of it. Jesus will not bow down to satan in order to prove he is the Son of God. Jesus maintains his identity by not proving his identity at the whim of the Tempter. Jesus says, ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’ ”
Jesus remaining steadfast in the face of temptations helps us to know that Jesus stands with us when our identity as God's beloved children is threatened. We can cling to our identity because in Jesus because we are not alone.
